Conference “Sociological Perspectives on Contemporary Post-Yugoslav Societies”

The first international conference organized by the Sociological Scientific Society of Serbia, titled “Sociological perspectives on contemporary post-Yugoslav societies,” was held on Friday, May 26th , and Saturday, May 27th , 2023, at the premises of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory in Belgrade.

A large number of colleagues from all countries that emerged from the dissolution of socialist Yugoslavia responded to the invitation of the SSSS, whose mission includes the development of international cooperation, especially in the region. Over 70 sociologists participated in the conference, making it the largest scientific symposium of sociologists from the post-Yugoslav region since the 1980s. Through a total of 42 scientific presentations, the participants discussed the similarities between societies that were part of the same political community for over 70 years, as well as the current differences between them resulting from the various paths of development taken by the newly formed states in the last
three decades.

The Presidency of the SSSS would like to thank all the members who participated in the organization, with special gratitude to Ivana Spasić and Suzana Ignjatović for proofreading the abstracts, as well as to Milica Vlajić, Jelena Pešić, and Srđan Prodanović for their dedicated work over the past months, which resulted in an excellent conference. The positive
feedback received from the participants serves as an additional encouragement for the SSSS to continue organizing international conferences biennially, as decided at last year’s assembly.

President of the Sociological Scientific Society of Serbia,
