Ivana Spasić is Professor at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, teaching courses in sociological theory and cultural sociology. She is also a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Belgrade and ERMA program at the University of Sarajevo Center for Interdisciplinary Studies dr Zdravo Grebo. Previously she taught at the Faculty of Music, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Political Science, University of Sarajevo, and Faculty of Music, University of the Arts Belgrade. She is a Faculty Fellow of Yale University’s Center for Cultural Sociology. Ivana Spasić served as director of the Institute for Sociological Research (2018-22) and Chair in Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies in Anthropology (2004-06) at the Faculty of Philosophy, Belgrade, as well as editor-in-chief of the journal Sociologija (2006-10). Her main areas of professional interest are social theory, history of ideas, cultural sociology, and postsocialism.
As author or coauthor, she has published six books, among them Sociology in Serbia: A Fragile Discipline (with Jelena Pešić and Marija Babović, 2022), Gradovi u potrazi za identitetom (Cities in search of identity, with Vera Backović, 2017) and Kultura na delu: društvena transformacija Srbije iz burdijeovske perspektive (Culture at work: The social transformation of Serbia from a Bourdieusian perspective, 2013), and edited several collective volumes, the most recent being Pandemija, društvo i simbolički poredak: javni diskursi u/o krizi izazvanoj pandemijom kovida 19 (Pandemics, society, and symbolic order: Public discourses in/on the covid-19 crisis, 2021).
