Solidarity with Boris Kagarlitsky

The Sociological Scientific Society of Serbia strongly protests against the repression suffered by the Russian sociologist Boris Kagarlitsky, recently sentenced to five years in prison by Vladimir Putin’s authoritarian regime on the baseless charge of „justifying terrorism“. Freedom of thought and speech is an inalienable human right, and an existential precondition for sociology as a discipline and profession.

To our colleague we wish to express our deepest sympathy and solidarity, and we call upon the sociological community worldwide, and particularly in the Russian Federation, to do whatever they can to help free Boris Kagarlitsky as soon as possible.
